HISTORY
Hopwood Jr. High School is located in the village of Chalan Piao on the island southern area of Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. In 1962, Hopwood Jr. High School opened its doors to provide competitive and quality education from grades 7 thru 12. Named after Admiral Herbert G. Hopwood, USN, HJHS served as the island’s only secondary education institution at the time. When Marianas High School opened in 1969, HJHS became a junior high school. Through the years, Hopwood has gone through many reconstructive renovations, especially as typhoons, termites, and age deteriorate the building structures. Fortunately, the school has received federal funding to repair these problems and maintain the schools operations.
